The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has confirmed the recovery of three bodies from the site of a building collapse in Ikorodu, Lagos, which occurred on Tuesday.
In a statement issued on Wednesday and shared with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, reported that the three individuals initially trapped under the rubble were found deceased.
The incident involved a two-storey building under construction, which collapsed around 2:02 PM. LASEMA promptly activated the State Emergency Response Plan, deploying rescue teams from both Agbowa and Alausa. The teams arrived at the scene by 2:40 PM and began immediate search and rescue operations.
According to Oke-Osanyintolu, nine adult males were successfully rescued and received immediate medical attention from the agency’s Pre-Hospital Care Unit.
“Emergency responders discovered that the structure had collapsed with three people trapped beneath the debris. Sadly, all three victims were recovered lifeless and their bodies handed over to the Igbogbo Police Division,” he stated.
While the exact cause of the building collapse has yet to be determined, LASEMA confirmed that safety protocols were enforced, and the incident area has been secured to prevent further risk.
Search and rescue operations are still ongoing as authorities continue to assess the structural integrity of surrounding buildings and ensure public safety.
