The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has issued a strong warning to candidates and the general public regarding fraudulent messages being circulated via a spoofed version of its official 66019 shortcode.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, clarified that the messages claiming candidates must reprint examination slips for a resit exam are false and misleading.
“These messages are not from JAMB,” Dr. Benjamin stated. “They are the work of fraudsters attempting to create confusion and spread misinformation among candidates, especially those who have already taken the resit examination and received their results.”
He emphasized that there are currently no scheduled resit examinations, and those who have completed the resit process successfully do not need to take any further action.
Dr. Benjamin further explained that the only upcoming examination JAMB is planning is the foreign UTME, which is typically conducted in nine countries across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Additionally, a mop-up examination will be organized in 2025 exclusively for candidates who missed both the main and resit exams due to biometric verification issues, and have been officially granted a waiver.
JAMB advised candidates to ignore any unofficial messages or instructions that are not communicated directly by the board through verified channels. The exam body assured that all eligible mop-up candidates will be formally notified once dates and logistics are finalized.
To avoid falling victim to scams, JAMB urged all candidates to rely solely on official communication from the board’s website, verified phone numbers, and shortcodes.
