The Lagos State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has criticized Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration for falling short in key areas such as transparency, accountability, and rural development.
In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday, the Lagos PDP Vice Chairman (Central), Mr. Hakeem Olalemi, shared his assessment of the governor’s performance over the past two years.
Olalemi acknowledged that Governor Sanwo-Olu’s second term has shown improvement, particularly in infrastructure development. “There’s a noticeable focus on infrastructure this term, which marks a step forward compared to his first tenure,” he said.
However, he pointed out that the state government continues to underperform in transparency and public accountability. “We consistently rate this administration low in openness. Citizens deserve to know the details and costs of government contracts. Transparency should not be optional,” Olalemi emphasized.
He further called on the governor to prioritize rural development, noting that equitable development is essential for inclusive growth. “Many rural areas remain neglected. The benefits of governance must reach both urban and rural communities to ensure balanced development,” he added.
On the topic of housing, Olalemi expressed concern that low-income earners are often left out of the government’s housing programs. “While new housing units have been commissioned, the core issue remains: affordability. The people who need housing support the most are not being adequately served,” he said.
Concluding his remarks, Olalemi urged the Sanwo-Olu administration to do more to reduce poverty and ensure that the state’s wealth benefits the average Lagosian.
